What We Believe

When Jesus arrived at the district of Caesrea Philippi he asked his disciples a question. “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” The disciples told Jesus that others say Jesus was a prophet or a great man. Jesus then asked his disciples, “But who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:13-15). This is the important question of our day.

Our Savior Lutheran Church is affiliated with the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and we believe that Jesus is the only Son of God and it is through Faith in Jesus alone that all people have forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

We believe and confess the Triune God. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We believe that the Bible is the infallible, inspired word of God, and the sole norm of our faith and doctrine.

We believe that all people are sinful and Jesus through His death and resurrection has redeemed us and has made us heirs of the kingdom of God not by our works, but by the grace of God.

We ground our faith by the means that God has given to us. His word and his sacraments (Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper), and we seek to carry out the task of making disciples of all nations though our proclamation of Jesus as he bid us do (Matthew 28:18-20).

When Jesus asked his disciples, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter quickly answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16). We echo the confession of Peter and make it our own.

Being Lutheran

Our congregation accepts the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in three phrases: Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.

Grace Alone

God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him, and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.

Faith alone

By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.

Scripture Alone

The Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.
